Weaning food for your baby must be soft, home cooked, fresh, mashed and semi-solid.
After six months, your baby needs other healthy foods along with breast milk. Growing baby needs more nutrients and only breastmilk is not sufficient enough for growth.
Once your baby is six months old, start offering semi-solid foods and mashed fruits or vegetables to your baby.
You can start offering the vegetables to your baby in the form of soup, soups are fully packed with energy and nutrition. It is easy to prepare and digest. Its a comfort food for kids and adults, especially when someone is sick.

#1. Spinach and Carrot Soup
Spinach and carrots make a high nutrient healthy recipe for your baby. Carrots & Spinach are a good source of antioxidant agents. Both are rich in protein, fiber, iron, vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, potassium, copper, zinc, magnesium, and manganese.
Spinach (Palak) is a rich source of Calcium. Spinach is low in fat & cholesterol. Spinach is an ideal green veggie for your baby at 6-9 month of age (of course you should continue as baby get’s older).
Carrots ( Gajar) are the good option as the first vegetable for babies due to the high nutrition. Carrots are easy to swallow and digest for your infant. Carrots are the good source of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene turns into vitamin A in the body.
Carrots are natural sweetener so your child would love to eat carrots.
Start with this amazing & healthy soup spinach and carrot soup for your child. This soup is a healthy choice for winters too.
Ingredients for Carrot/Spinach Soup
- Spinach leaves, cleaned and chopped – 1/2 cup
- Carrot/baby carrot, peeled and roughly chopped –1/4 cup
- filtered water – 1/2 cup

How to prepare spinach and carrot soup
- Wash and clean the spinach leaves. Roughly chop it.
- Peel and cut the carrot into small cubes.
- Put spinach, carrotand water together & let it get cooked on low flame.
- Stir in-between.
- Cook carrots, but make sure not to overcook.
- Switch off the flame, let the mixture cools off.
- Blend the mixture in a blender.
- Sieve the puree.
- Feed your baby with a spoon. It’s possible that your baby doesn’t like to have more than 2-3 spoons. It’s perfectly alright, don’t feed him forcefully. You can just offer it after a while.

#2. Carrot and Beetroot Soup
Beetroot is rich in minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamins such as Vitamin A, B, C, K and E.
Recipe of carrot, potato and beetroot soup
Ingredients:
- ¼ piece of medium sized beetroot, peeled and chopped
- ½ carrot (gajar), peeled and chopped
- ¼ piece of potato
- 1 cup filtered water
- Few drops of lemon juice (optional)
How to prepare carrot, potato and beetroot soup
- Wash, peel and cut the carrot into small cubes.
- Wash, peel and cut the beetroot into small cubes.
- Wash, peel and cut the potato into small cubes.
- Put carrot, potato, beetroot, and water in a pressure cooker and close the lid.
- Cook for three whistles and switch off the flame.
- Let the mixture cools off.
- Blend the mixture in a blender, if it’s too thick then add water.
- Strain the mixture through a sieve.
- You can add the drops of lemon juice into this soup before serving.
- Feed the soup to your baby with a spoon. Make sure your baby is sitting on a high chair and wearing a bib to avoid the stains over clothes.
#3. Apple and Pumpkin Soup
Apples contain pectin which is a soluble fiber that aids digestion. Pumpkin is a good source of essential nutrients which help in baby’s development, builds strong immune system.
Recipe of apple and pumpkin soup
Ingredients
- 1/2 small sized apple, peeled and chopped
- 1 small slice of pumpkin, peeled and chopped
- 1 cups filtered water
- A little pinch of cinnamon powder ( optional)
How to prepare apple and pumpkin soup
- Wash, peel and cut the apple into small cubes.
- Wash, peel and cut the pumpkin into small cubes.
- Put apple, pumpkin, and water into a pressure cooker and close the lid.
- Cook for three whistles and switch off the flame.
- Let the mixture cools off.
- Blend the mixture in a blender, if it’s too thick then add water accordingly.
- Strain the mixture through a sieve. Add a pinch of cinnamon powder to increase the flavors. This is one of the ways to introduce the spices to the baby.
- Feed the soup to your baby with a spoon.

#4. Lentil and sweet potato soup
This soup is an excellent source of iron, B vitamins, Vitamin A, and potassium. Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A & C, copper, manganese, pantothenic acid and vitamin B6. It also has phosphorus, potassium, dietary fiber and vitamin B1 & B2.
Lentils are rich in nutrition, high in protein, low in fat and help to improve the digestive system.
Recipe of lentil with sweet potato soup
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp arhar dal /moong dal/ toor dal, washed
- ¼ medium sized sweet potato, peeled and chopped
- 1 cup filtered water
- A small pinch of turmeric (optional)
How to prepare lentil and sweet potato soup
- Rinse and wash the dal in the running water.
- Put the dal and cubed sweet potatoes in a pressure cooker and close the lid.
- Let it get cooked till 4 whistles and switch off the flame.
- Mash the mixture once cool down.
- You can strain it through a sieve before serving to baby. Or if your baby is comfortable to have little chunks then just mash and feed it to the baby.
- You can add a pinch of turmeric while cooking.
Notes
- No need to add extra salt or sugar. Babies below 1 year of age don’t need the extra dose of salt and sugar.
- Check if your baby has food allergy with any of the vegetable. Vegetable allergies are not common. Symptoms of food allergies are sneezing, runny or blocked nose, rashes, watering eyes, vomiting, and diarrhea.
- In case of allergies, stop feeding this soup to your child. Talk to your pediatric.
- Don’t breastfeed your baby immediately after feeding this soup. It may upset your baby’s stomach.
