Loose motion in babies can be because of viral or bacterial infection. So don’t prefer to give the antibiotics for immediate treatment. The body needs the time to self-heal in such diseases. Take care of baby’s food and give him complete rest that your baby can feel better.

But if diarrhea continues for more than 3-4 days then seek the medical help.

Bottom Line:

If your baby is refusing the food during loose motions then don’t feed your baby forcefully. Just offer the food after a gap. Increase the fluid intake in your child diet.  Don’t give salt, sugar, and honey to babies below 1 year of age.

Look for the cause of loose motions, teething is the most common cause of the infant diarrhoea.

If your baby is not responding to home remedies or if there are other symptoms along with loose motions then take your baby to paediatric for treatment.

    • There is no problem if a child or adult is passing stoll more than twice.

We need to check the consistency, smell and other symptoms along with this. If motions are loose and very smelly then its a sign of stomach disturbance. Otherwise, its okay.

Which formula milk you are using for him?

It happen sometime when we introduce new food to baby, it takes the baby tummy to adjust with it.

As formula milk is heavy as compare to breastmilk.

I think, dont worry much. he will be fine soon. I would suggest you to nurse him if possible.

I don’t suggest or recommend any medicine on my blog. You need to see the doctor for medical help. Avoid topup milk or any other dairy products during loose motions because Lactose in milk triggers the motions. You can give curd, banana, boiled potato, boiled rice, pomegranate juice, sabudana water to your child during motions.

you can breastfeed your baby as much as you can.

    • Hello Madhuri,

Its okay if baby is not accepting sabudana water, you can give her ORS solution. It will always help to keep baby hydrated.

Avoid the dairy products, specially milk during motions. Give her breastmilk, curd, buttermilk.

It is normal that baby appetite lost when child is sick. Just offer the food and liquid diet frequently. Don’t force for more quantity in one go.

Avoid the greasy, fried, spicy foods. give her ORS solution as much as you can.

Has she gone thugh teething already? As its weather changes, sometimes its viral infection and she will be fine soon. Increase the liquid intake in her diet. If you are not feeling any changes then consult doctor for medical help.

I can’t tell you any specific reason, here are different reasons like germs infection, teething, starting solid foods, weather changes. So just breastfeed your child as much as you can. it will help to keep your baby hydrated. As nothing more you can do as your baby is below 6 months. Incase, you feel that motions are not better than consult the doctor.

      • Okay, As in the 7th months… too many things happening to a child…. introduction of solid foods, teething time and crawling kind activities. Sometims, when we start any new food, baby face disturbed bowel movements. Once baby stomach get settled with new food, motions will be okay,

In some case, teething also cause loose motions in babies. It will be fine once his first teeth emerge. So I would suggest yout o give liquid diet, curd, banana, boiled potato like foods to baby. Over formula milk or any other milk except breastmilk.

As baby is juts 4 months old, nothing much you can do. As she is completely on your breastmilk then continue it as much as you can. Breastmilk help your baby to deal with dehydration issue. During the first year of child birth, motions, cold and cough are very common issues which are cure by itself. Nothing much to worry. You can avoid sugary, oily and spicy food as she is on your feed.

If its still continue then please consult the doctor for medical help.

So I think, nothing to worry much. His stomach will be settled soon, just to avoid the extreme.. Keep him hydrated and give him simple and easy foods. He will be fine soon.

    • During loose motions, lactose in milk increase the motions. that’s why I mentioned to avoid dairy products except for curd. If your baby is mainly on milk and having loose motions then try to find out the lactose free formula milk which you can give during motions. It will help in diaper rash. Give him different types of liquid foods. ORS should be given to baby to maintain water level.

    • Diaper rashes are because of motions. Lactose in topup milk increase the rashes. So either avoid the dairy products or breastfeed your baby. If your baby is on formula milk then use lactose free formula for time being. Use coconut oil or rash cream. Keep your child diaper free, use the clothes nappies to keep that area airy.

    • Are your baby is on breastmilk or formula milk? If your baby is on topup milk then you should avoid it in loose motions. Because dairy products except curd is not good in motions. Increase the liquid diet of your child. Don’t give sugary food. Give him sabudana water, banana, starchy foods like boiled potato, boiled rice. Curd.. It will help him. For chest and cold.. Give steam to baby. Its better if you can consult the doctor once. Once teeth start emerging, his motions will be fine. Don’t worry. Give him curd rice, khichdi, buttermilk.

    • I am not sure about the usage of husk or how healthy it is for babies. If your child is having loose motions then please avoid dairy products such as cheese, heavy cream, butter and ice cream except yogurt. These may irritate your bowels worsening diarrhea. breastmilk is beneficial to keep the baby hydrated. Avoid fruits that have high amounts of fiber.

Include the recommended foods which I have mentioned in this article to cure loose motions.

    • You can try the following things if it help your child to get some relief. 1) Gently massage your baby’s stomach in a clockwise direction using mustard oil on daily basis. 2) Boil 1 tsp of saunf ( fennel seeds) in 1 1/2 cup of water, once its cool down, give it to your baby to drink. Try this practice for few days to see if its helpful. 3) Boost your child’s fiber intake. Give her plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. 4) You can give dried prunes or prune juice to your baby, its really helpful in constipation. If she doesn’t like the taste of prunes, try adding prune juice to her milk: Just 1 ounce of prune juice in half a cup of milk is very effective. 5) Give your child peas, apricots, plums, peas, beans and broccoli. Try above mentioned things for a week and observe if she is getting some benefits..

  45. Hi mam nw my daughter is 5month running from morning she is passing green stools along with that some little blood I’m seeing and she is facing difficulty while passing motion so let know any home remedie

    • Hello Praveena, here can be multiple reasons of green stool. 1)Intake of green vegetables/ leafy vegetables by mom or baby 2) Iron drops or supplements if your baby has 3) Infections 4) Diarrhea 5) Sensitivity to dairy intake of mother 6) Side effects of antibiotics if any

I am concerned about 3 and 5 point, please take your baby to pediatric & check once. We can’t treat it with home remedy if we are not clear about the reason of the trouble

I hope, you got my point. Once green poop and blood issue solved then we can talk about the constipation problem.

Keep me updated through email. much love to baby

    • Dear Bhawana, Thanks for writing to me.

If diarrhoea lasts longer than four days, then it may be chronic diarrhoea. Please visit paediatric to seek medical help. As your baby is 3 months old, he should be exclusively on breastmilk so we can’t try any oral home remedy. I would suggest you to breastfeed your child as much as your baby can. Breastmilk has anti-infective bodies and all the necessary nutrients that will help your baby to fight against bacterial or viral diarrhoea. Keep your baby hydrated & maintain his hygiene. If your baby is on formula milk then give your infant lactose free formula, it will help to improve and keep your baby free from diarrhoea rashes.
Let me know if you need any other suggestion. Take care of your child & don’t worry. Your child will be okay.

        • Hello Seema,

Usually white stool indicates that your baby is not properly digesting food. A white color may indicate a lack of bile from the liver to digest food. So I would suggest you do a proper medical check up of your child. Avoid any home remedy.
